I had the same scammers! Chatty adult man and quiet teenager-looking girl. He was very nice and charismatic in the beginning, but the sales pitch was getting more incoherent as he was describing where the donations go. The website he showed me on his phone screen also looked really janky in quality. There were stretched out thumbnails of generic magazine covers that didn't have descriptions or labels of what you would be purchasing -- really really shady. He showed me a Square seller page as well, but kept scrolling too fast for me to see any details. When I told them I won't be paying on the spot, because I need to read up on them first, his tone suddenly changed. He got really mad, yelled at me, and stormed off in a huff. It's just so unfortunate, because they're really eroding the trust of people who legitimately want to support good causes like this.

Same thing happened to me today in Ridgefield Park NJ (Nov 2nd, 2021), a black dude (25-30 y/o) and a younger black girl (14-17 y/o) rang my doorbell and gave me a sales pitch about their organization, Young Black Entrepreneurs, and read off a script in an ipad. He told me he was collecting magazine donations for a cause / social organization of my choice, and gave me a pretty solid pitch about his background, empowering black youths, and he mentioned that he had hit up other folks in the neighborhood as well.

I wanted to do good by these folks out here in the cold trying their best to hit a sales quota, and the cause seemed legit so I offered to donate cash instead of purchasing a magazine subscription for a cause of my choice through credit card. In hindsight, it was a very sketchy interaction, and I'm worried that my $50 went to something bogus.

Luckily I didn't give them my credit card, but I do feel a little bit like a sucka considering they walked off snickering and the whole interaction really felt bogus in hindsight.

A young man came to my door selling magazine for his charity. I did not want to purchase to donate so I told him I'd donate $20. He ran my credit card though his "square" and I asked for the receipt to be sent to my email. As soon as he left, I checked my email and discovered he had charged $201.60 to my card. I ran out to catch him, and of course, he was gone. He hit up other people in my neighborhood also. I quick tried to cancel this transaction and Discover Card would not allow it, I would have to dispute it if it was wrong. Talking to them was like spitting in the wind... save your breath. I got my statement, disputed the charges, and just received documentation that supports them in not removing the charge from my card. According to "square" they are legitimate. He not only charged me $25 for a donation (supposed to be $20), he also charged me for magazine subscriptions (which are surely bogus).

I've called the number given to me by discover and gotten no response (336-233-1241). I've emailed the email that's on their square account and gotten back that it's non existent (Owner Management, Preston Craig, "[email protected]"). I've tried to locate this business (SQ *YOUNGBLACKENTREPRE, location Winston Salem, NC....Business Address: Fitchburg, MA 01420), and they are no where to be found. Discover is charging me the entire amount. Square is looking into it. I've reported this to the Attorney Generals office and the local police department is next. I HAVE a picture of this character, and have attached it. I have searched my emails for my receipt and can not find it.... I did not think I'd have a problem getting this charge removed from my CC since I caught it right away.
