I received a letter and W9 form asking for my social security number or EIN. Why would I be asked for this? I believe it is a scam.

I received a check and instructions in the mail. These instructions said to deposit this check ($2850.00) in my account and to follow steps as to what to do with the money. It says to email your co-ordinator notifying him as soon as funds will be available for withdrawal. It says to text message so the company can track and monitor all conversation between new agent and assigned co-ordinator. "Everything needs to be in writing". This scam involves installing a wrap on your vehicle for advertisement of a product.
