In April 2017, after my computer acted strangely for about a week, I received a popup from microsoft to call a number for help. It looked legitimate, and when I called I was "connected" to what I thought was a subcontractor which later called itself Xpert Techno. They claimed my Ip address was being used by foreign entities, and after giving them access to my computer they "cleaned" it and installed a firewall. I paid $699 for the service on my Discover card. My computer worked well for a year. Recently, when I turned on the computer, bells start ringing (literally) and a sign flashed to call a number for help with my computer. I did not call, because it was so phony. I turned off the computer, took out the battery, and later uninstalled google, and reinstalled it a couple days later. I then started receiving call from Xpert Techno. At first, I thought it might be legit, and gave them access to my computer, but it was the same spiel and I needed an upgrade. I refused the service, and they started threatening what could happen to my computer. I still refused service, and when I hung up, my computer screen went blank. I understand that they were able to disconnect my windows os. They then called back to see how my computer was, I then told them I was calling the FBI. I have not heard from them since, and did fill out and sent an online crime report to the FBI. I also sent a notice to Microsoft. All parties to whom I spoke were male with Indian accents.
