Type of a scam Employment
Asked for snapshot for ID l, pictures of my workspace, and said they would pay for the equipment needed for the job. And a website to review the company. Which my Godfather and I both checked out. I will admit, when he said he was impressed with my answers, I wondered why, but I really wanted a work from home job. So when he asked if I wanted check or direct deposit I said check, because of the funny feeling I had. They then said they would send a pdf of a check I needed to print, endorse and send a picture to them to make sure it wasn't blurry. I did so. I deposited the check mobile as instructed ($1,970). He asked for screenshot to verify deposit, this screenshot has my checking account info on it, but why worry? They are my boss, they can send me money and I might use direct deposit down the road. The bank accepted the same day and a small portion was made available. He told me to send a portion to the vendor on Zelle. It didn't work for me so they asked me which app I had. I told them Cash App. They said they would send the vendor's info.(this whole time I am sending screenshots to my Godfather to review and make sure it is legit. I also sent the work contract which he said was good, explained what they were saying and he said as long as I am not spending my own money it is fine.) I then told them I wanted to wait till the rest of the money hit on Monday but he could send the vendor info so that I could send it first thing. He did not. (This is Friday when hired and convo continued into Saturday).
Monday came and the money still wasn't there. But I sent what I had ($225) anyway to get the shipping process started. Then he informs me the vendor wants to wait for the full payment. Then he tells me that the vendor can't provide everything so I will have to purchase some things on my own, check the prices to make sure it will cost what he projected. I send screenshots of prices, he says they are too expensive and will see if the vendor can order from someone else. He says they can.
Next day (Tuesday) comes and the full amount is there. I take out my sign up bonus and send the money to a new name, first $1,000 then $595. He told me HR would call me. My Godfather tells me to call the company. I call one of the numbers listed at one of their locations. It is after hours, so I expect to get a voicemail. I say I am a new hire, ask if there is anything I can do while waiting for supplies and a thank you to Johnson Williams (the name on the contract). This was during the weekend. I am asking about HR and admin who he says will give me my daily duties etc. Keeps telling me to wait. (Mind you, there are misspelled words and sentences that sound like a foreigner speaking, I know because there are plenty in my family. But I ignore it because I know people from other countries that have changed their names and who wants to be cancelled and crushed by the woke mob?) Then he sends me a link for my ID badge. I take photos of my ID card and have my face scanned with face recognition software. Later that day, he sends me another message saying there are more supplies needed. They are sending another check. ($1,570.75) I know the routine so I do it. I got gas and some small items with my bonus money. I got to a meeting two hours later and my account is locked. I told my Mom and Godfather about it. He says call the bank (I was gonna go in next day, but I obey). I call the after office hotline they say It's fraud! I go to look for the messages because I had just told the guy that my bank account was locked and asked if there was something wrong with the check. The message history is gone! I asked him why our messages are gone and it says he was online a long time ago (as apposed to a time that usually shows) My bank rep tells me to go to the bank tomorrow and tell them my story. She said my account will be -$1,970!!!! Mind you, two weeks ago, I had to go to my bank because two companies were charging me and had to get that stopped. Now I am being scammed by a false job! I feel and look like an [censored]! I am so nervous about going anywhere with my name. I feel like there is no where I can go and nothing I can do from now on. Like I can never be financially stable. Who targets poor people? How are these companies finding me? Maybe they are not connected, what if they are? How do I know if people aren't just passing my info from one place to another? They have my full name, address, phone number, face and part of my house layout! I feel unsafe and so used. Again, like an [censored]! Be careful! I kept getting funny feelings which is why I asked my Godfather for advice. But stupid and wise people can be tricked. Be careful! There are heartless people out there.
