I am writing to report a scam involving Xfinity.

About a month ago, I called to find out why my monthly charge had gone up. I reached a call center. The woman in the call center noticed that I had been an Xfinity customer for 20 years. She told me that, because I had been such a loyal customer, Xfinity was going to send me a free smart watch. I just had to pay $28 for shipping, which I agreed to do.

Within about a week, the watch arrived, but I was too busy to open the box. Pretty soon Xfinity started calling me twice a day to activate the watch. The man at that call center informed me that, to use the watch, Xfinity was going to add $12 a month to my bill… Well, $15 a month with taxes. I told him that I didn’t want to spend that money. “Why not? It is only $12 a month?” he said. I said, “That’s $144 a year. $180 a year with tax. I don’t want to pay that.”

At that point, he informed me if I didn’t agree to pay this extra charge then I would have to return the watch. No problem! I never even took it out of the box. He said they would send me a shipping label.

Because I felt like Xfinity had been manipulative and deceitful, I decided to personally return the watch. I marched into the Xfinity store and as soon as I said that I had been offered a free watch, he started shaking his head. He said that he knew exactly what I was going to say and he apologized to me for the entire incident. He checked my account and said that I still had 5 days to return the watch. He printed off the label and taped down to the box. He instructed me to take it to FedEx, which I did straight away.

At this point, I felt played and was frustrated they Xfinity wasted my time and $28 dollars.

But things were about to get so much worse.

I have auto-pay for my Xfinity account. This week, Xfinity went into my account and withdrew $350 without my knowledge or consent! Only after they withdrew the money, I received an email informing me that the watch was “badly damaged” and so I had to pay for it. Let me emphasize this again: I never even took the watch out of the box! I returned it to Xfinity is perfect, brand-new condition.

This is a scam. I never went looking for a smart-watch. Xfinity told me it was “a free gift” because I had been with the company for 20 years. Now I am out $378.

I want my money back. Period.

And are they going to return to me the “free watch” that has wound up costing me $378? I am not holding my breath. I can practically guarantee you that the perfect watch I returned is for sale somewhere on Ebay.

I am not taking this lying down. I am filing complaints with the Florida Attorney General’s Office, the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs and the Federal Communications Commission.

This is a scammy and scummy business practice. They cheated me out of $378 after I have paid the company more than $20,000 over the last two decades. Well, they won’t be getting any more of my money. I don’t do business with deceitful companies.

Said my XFINITY promotion expired. Offered 2 year $80/mo, 3 year/$65 mo., or 5 year $45/mo service with the stipulation that half was paid up front. Said they were in accordance with Target who was sponsoring the promotion. Catch was had to pay with Target cc, which I don't have, a Target debit card, which I don't have, or Target gift cards (hmmmmmm. fishy). The invoice they sent was not from xfinity.

Claimed to be Xfinity was able to see my account and that they can lower my bill. If I pay $580 up front with Target gift cards or a Target credit card. I was to call them back with the Target gift card numbers. Billing number is 833-384-3157. Number that called me 316-246-9555. BEWARE!!!!!

i called a number on the internet that claimed to be xfinity customer service. i asked that they give me unlimited data plan because i was paying too much each month. and they told me that they dont have that but they were partnering with other internet companies. and they offered me at&t wifi. i accepted it and they said that they would cancel my wifi and home phone plan. The wifi and home phone plan was supposed to be canceled but this month i was supposed to pay my tv bill plan, i found out that they never canceled my wifi and home phone plan. I went to the xfinity store after to ask about it and they said that those people we called were fake and we got scammed because they wouldnt offer other companies plans.

Caller said an Xfinity promotion for $450 would be bill payment for 6 months. The promo was an Xfinity and Target joint effort. If we purchased a $450 Target gift card then we would gain the promo discount.

I received a call from a man claiming to be from Xfinity. I actually called Xfinity last week to fix my internet, so I thought it may be legit. He called from 6027049224 and claimed Xfinity was remotely fixing my internet and that I needed to download the AnyDesk app. I found out that this is a spy app that if you give them your code, they can control you ENTIRE INTERNET presence and everything you have saved to you account. Do NOT download any apps someone you don't know tells you to. I called Xfinity and asked them if they had called me. There is no record of my name on their call schedule. Complete SCAM!

Caller claimed to be with Xfinity, asking consumer to pull up / provide account info so they could lower her bill, upgrade her modem, etc. At one point, threatened to "cut off service" if did not send a check or money order for $349 to a provided address in Brooklyn, NY. Caller seemed to have some basic info about consumer (home address, modem type), but rest of statements weren't adding up. Consumer recognized as a scam attempt, and hung up.

Xfinity was going to update their "box" at no charge. They did not have to come out, and it would lower their bill, but they had to pay a $249.19. Gave a 808-444-4683, but on her phone showed a different number. — Asked for account number, so they could deduct the right amount.

I received an email on 04.16.2020 from "My Comcast Account." The subject line said, "Incoming Mails on Hold." The email address it came from was [email protected]. I spoke with Comcast and was told this email did not come from them.

Below is what the email said. I felt a responsibility to report this email to the BBB. Thank you!
