Rec'd a call on my cell yesterday afternoon from a male calling from clerk of courts in canton ga number. Saying I was being taken to court, I had to be at my home within an hour and half to sign for the summons. gave me a case number and a phone number - wouldn't answer any questions said i would have to call that number and hung up. I called the number, spoke to a Daniel Cruz at ext 3830 who said they were a litigation firm and I was being taken to court by Best Bank and the amount was 1900+ dollar including legal and court fees. Only way to stop the proceedings was to pay today. I said I can't pay that he said let me see what I can do - put me on hold came back and said they were willing to drop all but what I owed, 429.45. I said I still can't pay all of that. Now I do owe the creditor so I offered to pay 50.00 today to stop everything. I kept asking for documentation of what I owed I said I had moved over 3 years ago and hadn't rec'd anything since the move. Wouldn't provide anything to me. I was scared and paid over the phone using my debit card. I did sign a document they sent where it says I will need to make 2 other payments and if not on those dates then the agreement is null and void. After thinking on this overnight I called the Clerk of Courts in Canton, GA where the original call came from spoke to several people who couldn't locate the case number nor anything in my name. They directed me to the Sheriff. Called the Cherokee County Sheriff they didn't have anything for me in my name and told me to call Paulding County where I live. Called Paulding County Sheriff and spoke to a Detective there who had nothing for me and said they wouldn't call to say they where going to serve me in the first place. Said she was 98% sure that was a scam and I needed to close my account right away.
