At 5:14 Mountain time we received a phone call to our home number from a man with a foreign accent who told us he represented “Window.s” He said there was a problem with our computer. My wife answered the phone, and , suspecting it was a scammer, she told him to remove our phone number form his contact list. He called again at 7:16 Am with the same pitch. This time when she asked him to remove our number form his contact list, he shouted “NO.” My wife then hung up on him. He called both times from 828-743-2063. We contacted ScamPulse.com Northwest and they informed us that Microsoft Windows does not use that method to contact people.

Caller claimed to be James Williams and told me that hackers were trying to access my computer at this moment, and he would tell me the steps to take "offline" to protect my computer from hackers. I asked him for his number, so that I could call him back when I could get to my computer, but he refused to give me a number. I got this number from my caller id:

128-773-2148

The man had a heavy foreign accent, but I cannot identify it. (Definitely did not sound like the accent you might expect from a James Williams)

A person named "Peter" called claiming to represent Windows. He said our computer is reporting back to them that we have some bad viruses on our hard drive that he could help me delete. He wanted me to log on and he would guide me through the process. I asked for a phone number so I could call back. The phone number he gave was 315-407-4060. I could call back and I should ask for him. I wanted him to give the steps over the phone, I would check them out and then do it later. He said if I didn't trust him, I should hang up. I hung up.
