I anwered an ad in Craigslist for an apartment for rent. We had a series of emails: first he sent more photos of the inside, then he laid out the procedure: I was first to send a scanned copy of my drivers license front and back, then once that was approved he would send me the lease which I would have to sign, pay $3000 for the first month's rent and $2000 deposit - all before seeing the inside of the place. When I emailed back that I found that unusual and that it made me uncomfortable, he told me it was to secure the place. They would take it off the market till I saw it, in other words it was being reserved for me. He assured me if I didn't like the place once I was there in person, all would be refunded - but I couldn't see it till the current tenants moved out on 9/27/23, next week. He then sent me an email with a link to his broker's license and it looked legitimate... so I stupidly sent my drivers license. But I still found it odd that a licensed broker would have no internet presence both under his name and his company name. Therefore I went to the address to take a look, and just happened to be there when a man was unloading his car. I asked him if he was William David, he said no, never heard of him, that he was the new tenant who was in the process of moving in. And the homeowner across the street also confirmed that there was no dishwasher, as advertised, and it was clear there was no wheelchair accessibility, as advertised.

I emailed William David to say I was reporting him to the ScamPulse.com and the landlord tenants organization. I will also alert my IDShield to be on the lookout for anything suspicious on my accounts.
