I applied for a market research position evaluating stores. I received a cashiers check in the mail with instructions to buy two $500 Nike gift cards and $40 worth of items from the store and evaluate the store. In exchange I could keep $480 and if I completed it in 12 hrs I would get an extra $250 gift card. The mobile check was accepted. When I tried to pay for the cards at CVS the store clerk told me it was a scam and urged me not to do it.
