Type of a scam Debt Collections

I was contacted by a private / blocked phone number the gentleman on the other end stated that I had a certified letter and I needed to contact this number to schedule a delivery he then provided me with a 1-800 number. I contacted the 1-800 number they asked me for a reference code that the gentleman gave me. They then continued to tell me that I have a debt for a bank account from 18 years ago and they wanted $1,338 they stated they sent me a letter 48 days ago I requested another letter they refused they said they do not have to send me another letter once they sent one. they then tried to continue to collect money from me for half of the amount due. I notified them that to my understanding it is past the statute of limitations. she then continued to stay that it's going to go against my credit report and if I want to dispute this I need to contact my attorney or pay the amount due. I told her without a letter that this account will go unsettled. I contacted the number back to find out more information and talk to a supervisor. The first time I got hung up on the second time I got put on hold for 20 minutes and a third time I was told that there was no supervisor on duty. I attempted to look up info on this company & found nothing.I know it is illegal for them to contact me from a private or blocked number in regards to a debt collection, also I believe this is past the statute of limitations if the debt is legit. I know I have a right to dispute, but without a letter or a bill, I have nothing to dispute.
