After making a deal on Craigs List for a mink coat I received an email from Wendi Partida almost immediately. She seemed convincing until I checked her name on Google and saw the exact same messages that she sent me and saying that her daughter's wedding is coming up. After giving her my personal information, (including my cell phone number) I feel like such a fool. This person has to be removed from Craigs List!

I listed a w/d combo and got this from Wendi [email protected]

Thanks for returning my message. I'm currently not in town for now, so I won't be able to meet with you due to my work frame and also we are very busy at this time preparing for our daughter's wedding but I'm okay with the price and condition as shown on the advert. I'll proceed in issuing a cashier's check to you and when you receive the payment and it clears your bank, I will make arrangements for the pick up. I will also add an additional $50 to hold it down for me. So get back to me with the details below to mail the check out to you asap..

Name to be on the payment ...
Address to mail the check to ...
City, state and Zip code ...NOT P.O BOX

I had listed our old car as salvage for parts for sale on CL. The initial contact email was: [email protected]
This email said they didn't read replies from encrypted CL emails, so I figured I will directly email them just in case they were legit.
Then suddenly, Wendi Partida emailed with the same massage I have been reading on here.
I responded in a message that no we don't accept Cashiers Checks, no credit cards or debit cards. We only accept cash. Plus we insist on taking a Pic of their drivers license when they show up to pay with the cash.
Hubby didn't like this email. I found this web page so not going forward with either these "people". I reported her email address as spam & blocked her. Will do the same for "Aaron".
Be careful!

It seems her (if Wendi is actually a person) daughter is perpetually getting married. I received an email through Craigslist from a John Patton asking if he could stop by to buy my boat "either today or tomorrow" saying he had cash in hand. I replied promptly and received the exact same email from Wendi as stated by others (so much for originality) stating she was "out of town". Yeah, right. Scammer!

Not gonna fall for your stupid, "I'm out of town right now" b.s.

"Wendi" first contacted me via Craigslist using the name "Mike" : [email protected]. Re: $500 worth of white oak flooring for sale. When I replied only, "Let me know which day you'd like to stop by," then Wendi sent me this f--ed up response:

"Thanks for returning my message. I'm currently not in town for now, so I won't be able to meet with you due to my work frame and also we are very busy at this time preparing for our daughter's wedding but I'm okay with the price and condition as shown on the advert. Please note: "Wendi's" message was all in small, closely spaced type. Plus mentioning cashier's check and bank. Pfft. Fuggedaboutit. I replied, "Let's do this: Let me know when you're in town and can stop by."

I mean ---- just in case. I've had some strange looking replies to my Clist ads, but then the buyers turned out to be genuine and stopped by to purchase items.

THEN I looked up Wendi Partida.

Glad you're getting the word out about these mofo scammer pieces of [censored].

Posted some speakers for sale on Craigslist. Some cat who called himself "Barry Fouts" ([email protected]) asked if "it" (a PAIR of speakers) was still available. I asked for his text# and got no response. When I emailed his addy directly, this Wendy chick responded. The message was nearly identical to some other scammer I dealt with last month. Wants to pay by "certified check". Surprise. This is getting RIDONKULOUS!

So I'm curious, what if you deposit the check?

Checks can take up to 10 business days to clear. Your bank will clear the funds to you in 1-5 days but on day 10 they can take it back when the check is dishonored and then you're stuck with a hole in checking and your merch as been effectively stolen.

It bounces as soon as the bank figures it out (could take several weeks I hear)

Email with strange content. Beware

I listed a carburetor on Craigslist and got and email from "[email protected]. What followed is exactly what has been previously described. I got a check from Demers Ambulances which is a real business ... they are in Canada and build ambulances. The check was for $3300 so I knew immediately that it was a scam.

Hi, I received the exact same emails and with no experience with dealing with this, I foolishly went along. When I received the check, which was $3200 instead of my selling price of $150, they said it was for the movers, who I assumed was local. I did infact deposit the check but then I received a text message from her husband "Tony" that wanted me to buy a money order from the post office for the movers, that's when I realized it was most likely a scam. So, not even 20 minutes after I deposited the check, I drove right back to my bank and told them everything. They are going to look into it and will contact me once they do, the check will be held until then. I am also reporting it to the authorities once I receive l confirmation from my bank that it is in deed fake. Oh, on the check it also has the company "Earth Systems Pacific", which is a legit company and correct address listed, along with the issuing bank "Pacific Premier Bank". Needless to say, I'm sticking to local buyers that I can confirm their identity.

She/He tried to make me deposit a 3200$ check and almost was successful with the scam

I got the same BS emails and funny thing is the other day when I looked at this sight, she sent an email stating the check was in the mail and I should get it on the 13th.
If it is actually in route...it will be sent return to sender. Crazy people can't be trusted.

Got exact email from craigslist item I posted and thought too good to be true so I did Google search of the name and this site was first on search results. What made me second guess it was I got original text from a man's account and when I replied to it the reply I got was from Wendi partida. Thankfully I did and saved myself the headache cuz I really need to sell the item and yo a real buyer don't have time to be scammed.

She contacted us on Craigslist after we had sent a message to Arthur Croomsy in which that name doesn’t seem to exist anywhere. This appears to be a scam

She first asked to send message to personal email: [email protected], then today she asked for address to send a cashiers check. When googled her name , MULTIPLE people received the same email in Craigslist. I’ve attached the same email I saw that other victims received. Craigslist needs to go after her/him/they and people like this.

Hello, I just got exactly the same! It was so obviously a scam, that I ignore it, but I immediately informed Craigs List.
Strange enough, the first mail that I received was sent via a CL address, in the message the person said that he is interested (I'm selling an item), but asked me to reply to his private email [email protected] - (this is an exising company!). I replied to the CL address and to that address from an old back-up email account. Now I get on that account the scam message from Wendi Partida - [email protected].
Seeing all these messages now here: Craigs List should take action!

Thanks for posting this. Got the same message. Why isn't Craigslist doing something about this. This is my first posting with them and may be my last. Such a shame.

Black Friday Wendi Partida email matches exactly to the emails above. It seems her daughter's wedding and her work schedule are keeping her REALLY BUSY. It sounds like her daughter has gotten married several times already. I have noticed on Craigs List everything I price over 400 gets scammed. SO SAD...

So I just recently received the same messages and went through the whole process. I don't understand what their motive is. To get the furniture for free or the laugh of someone try to deposit a fake check?

I recently just had "Wendi" come to me interested in a Nintendo Switch I had listed on Craigslist. Myself being fairly new and this being my first sale on the site was unaware of this being a scam. They too sent me the emails listed above verbatim and confirmed my listing price with an additional $50 for a holding fee considering they had said they were out of town. Myself being inexperienced, decided to send the information because I was unaware of these scams, and waited days for any response. They had recently contacted me about sending the check through fedex and getting confirmation it would be delivered in the morning. I got the check which was issued for $2,600 under my name and with that being the nail in the coffin, I contacted the bank it was issued from to get any information and to report suspicious activity, confirmed that the check had been fraudulent given the information I provided. I emailed them back stating that reports had been made to the bank they had issued from and to cease any contact with me nor will I continue ang business with them. Please pass this along to anyone you may know that is trying to sell on CL and to avoid this buyer! Report them if encountered as I feel they target newer accounts or those inexperienced and stay safe!

She originally emailed this: I saw your ad. I want to buy it. Are you the first owner of it ? I don't check cl mail , so email me [email protected]

I emailed her and this is what I received from [email protected]:
