We planned to have our website revamped. They requested an initial payment (60% of total), which we paid. After payment they started on the project... but they completed 1% of the project as a whole. We tried to contact them multiple times over the span of a year. We finally got in touch, quickly realized it was, in fact, a scam. When we asked for money back, they asked for us to pay a start-up fee so they could start again on the project. We obviously did not pay the start-up fee and requested our money back once more. Their response was "that is not possible."
Scammer Tactics:
They would schedule calls and then cancel when the time arrived.
Claimed since they "started" on the project, that they could not refund our money... even though we never were delivered anything for the money we paid.
When we asked a tough question over the phone, the project manager would say something along the lines of "let me ask my boss and I will call you back in 10 minutes", so he had time to think of an answer.
