I am the employer, this email scammer tried to access employee paychecks through a direct deposit scam. The email arrived with the name of an employee showing. The sender requested a change form for direct deposits. Not an unusual request so I sent it. It came back and was not completed properly so I asked questions and got replies but the verbiage didn't fit the employee who I know well. When I clicked on the employee's name the above email address showed and I knew something was off. I phoned the employee and they had not made the request. I researched the routing number to a bank out of South Dakota. I tried calling the bank but was unable (after trying every number on their list) to reach a live person to report the issue to. The next step is to report to my BBB. The scariest part was how it showed up as my employee's name on my email. Of course, I am not tech savvy so I don't understand if it is easy or hard to do but it sure makes things look legit if you are not observant.
