My computer was locked by a red pulsating box on my screen with a lot of data including a phone number to call with referances to Microsoft. I called in a tech walked me through what was going on and I stupidly allowed him into my computer remotely. He then "fixed and scanned some things telling me how the scammers were going to "get" me unless I purchased this firewall protection system. Cost $699.

I was finally tipped off by the fact that they wanted an online check from my bank for which I would have to provide my routing and account number! This was because that is safer than a credit card. I feel stupid now but they are smooth and professional and have an answer for all things. I bailed out, called my bank, and they called "[censored] on this scam. Very scary that they locked up my computer from wherever they are though. What steps do I need to take now. Fortunately the computer they hacked was one that I use almost exclusively for internet radio, so they didn't get much off this one but if they had gotten into my other computer they may have gotten everything I hold dear.
