Web Security Services Global or Web Security Experts Reports & Reviews (1)

- Littleton, CO, USA

We received a voicemail from "Web Security Services Global" stating we had to call to cancel a service we initiated in 2017 or pay a renewal fee of $1,500. The call came from a Mountain Home, AR phone number. Initially we thought this was based on a previous request for technical support for our 2012 Toshiba laptop that was not functioning properly, though we could not recall the date of that request. We paid what was believed to be a one-time service fee through a customer support line. We have not used that laptop for at least two years. I was concerned and, though I usually ignore these perceived phishing calls, called the number. When I explained I wished to cancel our service as a follow-up to a voicemail I received, the representative asked to connect me to the cancellation service via Zoom meeting. I stated we wished to cancel the service for "personal" reasons which I had to indicate in the chat. The service was allegedly some kind of network security for all of our devices, including smart TVs. We did not have visibility of said service. The "cancellation technician" walked me through a series of chat entries stating we electronically signed a contract in 2017, and then proceeded to outline the alleged terms of the agreement in our Zoom meeting chat. I took screenshots as the call proceeded for more than an hour with a requirement to re-connect at one point. The cancellation details also included the name of the company and address: "Web Security Experts" which was not the same as the caller on voicemail initially indicated. The technician also indicated this is a POSTPAID SERVICE and pointed to the terms that state the company will only make contact in the third paid year for update or for payment not received. Please note we have not paid an annual fee since 2017 and no one reached out for missed payment. The "cancellation technician" stated based on our intent to cancel, we would no longer be financially liable for 2021 - 2023 and 2020 was forgiven due to COVID. The "cancellation technician" transferred me to a "billing technician" who explained we were responsible to pay $999.99 for 2018 and 2019 each. Those debts could not be forgiven as we had already "consumed" the service. In addition, the "billing technician" told us they could not cancel our contract until our debt ($1999.98) from 2018 and 2019 were paid in full. I asked him to send a copy of the signed contract. He explained they sent it once via e-mail in 2017 and could not send it again. I told him to send me a bill. I was not paying for this over the phone. He also refused to send a bill. After speaking to his "supervisor," the "billing technician" came back to offer us $800.00 off the $1,999.98 we "owe" and 24 months of free services. We declined and again, I told him to send me bill. He stated we would be sent to collections as a consequence of failure to pay today and that our account would remain active, continuing to incur debt. We hung up without resolution. The Zoom meeting terminated as I tried to get some additional screenshots.

The "cancellation technician" had our past two mailing addresses. I made the mistake of providing our current address, but did not provide any additional information and did not pay the requested amount.
