The man, going by Anthony Herrera, had viewed my LinkedIn profile and emailed me asking for website design services - because that is one of the services I offer. I spoke to him on the phone once to confirm the project scope. Over the next month, I created a website wireframe for the website design. I emailed the wireframe and he made my initial upfront payment (via Quickbooks). Then he tried to convince me to help him pay his graphic designer. He wanted me to be the middle man between the graphic designer and him, claiming he could not pay them easily like was able to do with me. This is when I realized it was a scam. After consulting Quickbooks and Bank of America representatives, I did not send him back the upfront payment, because they both told me that the money would be organically removed from my account when the charge is inevitably disputed by whoever's [stolen] credit card information he was likely using. This did happen about 2 to 2.5 months later, and I had to pay a fee for that transaction that was about $25. Luckily this was the only money I ended up losing from the scam.
