Walmart/ Green Dot Bank illegally signed me up for a debit card. I have never applied for or inquired about banking with them. They mailed me a debit card wanting me to activate it. When calling the customer service to report that I did not authorize this, I discovered the phone number associated with the account isn’t even mine. The representative tried saying someone in my family had to of opened it for me- wrong. This is beyond predatory and a violation of my information. What if someone stole my mail? They’d then have access to an account in MY name that I did NOT sign up for. The representative would not tell me where or when this card was applied for. I made them close the account. I do not even shop at Walmart and want nothing to do with them. If this wasn’t a scam by a person who stole my identity (which I just checked and found no hits), it means that Walmart is taking peoples information and opening accounts in their name with no authorization hoping the person activates the card with no thought about it. Violating and disgusting business practice. I have already filed a report with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
