Scammer sends an email asking for mystery shoppers to work for Walgreens in return for up to $400 a week. The recipient of this email selects the option to click-thru to an application asking for a physical address, email, and telephone number. Once provided a priority mail 3-day package arrives in my mailbox. Inside it contains a $1,900 cashier check and an elaborately poorly written set of instructions telling the recipient to deposit the cashier check and wait up to 24 hours to have the bank process it and place funds in the account. This will never happen because the ABA routing number contains only 8-digits instead of 9-digits, is printed using ink instead of high-quality laser toner on a set of checks you can get with any personal check writing software, and also does not contain a watermark. The letter talks about the ability to earn an extra $100 (bringing the possible total to $400 if performed and completed within the first 24 hours. It is all about speed so the recipient might take the money from pre-existing funds to cover the cost of the necessary purchases. Step 4 requires you to visit one or more stores to purchase $1500 worth of Ebay gift cards. These could be using Walgreens, Best Buy, CVS, Apple Store, Kroger, or any other sores around you. The next step is to carefully scratch off the code covering and take pictures of each card and the receipt indicating the purchase.
