Computer froze up. "Microsoft" ad appeared on screen offering to help. I called the number on screen. Technician told about virus that was preventing me from using computer. I stupidly said OK and he took over remotely over an hour. Stated it was all set and said charge was $1,052 and I scanned check to him. I was suspicious, but was not aware of scam making the rounds. Enquired of google, after seeing it on TV, and then quickly cancelled all my credit cards, checking acc't, etc. to try and avoid any info. being hijacked. Reported it to FTC and BBB. Have to find a reputable co. to recheck computer. Am 73. Info on scams should be broadcast more widely , and how to resolve. Currently, do not know whether have lost my money.
