Scammer did exactly as described above. Listed item on Craigslist. Have gotten nothing but scammers for the past day.

My teenage son posted a Kijiji ad for a dirt bike he was selling. A buyer messaged him seeming to be very interested. They messaged back and forth quite a bit about the bike, and before arranging to “take time off work” to come and see the bike, the buyer wanted a VIN report done through the company vinvehiclepro.com. My son provided the Vin number and told the gentleman he was welcome to do one himself at which point he came back and said he was not going to do a report for a vehicle he did not own. Stupidly we purchased the report online using a PayPal account to pay for the purchase. As soon as the purchase went through the email address that the payment went to seemed very odd as it looked like a personal Gmail account. We did receive an e-mailed report that had the make and model of the bike, but nothing else was provided. The gentleman had arranged to come the next day to look at the bike and he did not show up. His cell number was out of service the next day, although we were able to message him by e-mail. Too many red flags and we also found information online about scams where people are interested in a vehicle and request a VIN report from specific companies.
