I put an ad on Craigslist to sell my car. I got an email from an individual asking for my direct email so their husband could contact me later about buying the car. Then I got an email from someone named Jonrob from a gmail account. In the email they said they wanted to buy a car quickly and asked me to run a vehicle history report through a specific company saying that is what their loan officer wanted. Good thing I did my research because I knew right away that the request was a scam. I clicked onto the website and as I read the "about" and "contact" page, you could tell right away it was not legit. The site wasn't written well and the contact page was vague, saying their hours of operation were "Monday to Sunday 24/7." To further verify that the site was fake I put in a fake VIN number and was immediately asked to pay $25 for the service. I looked up https://globaltitlereport.com/ on ScamPulse.com and found that they weren't verified through ScamPulse.com or through www.vehiclehistory.gov - which lists NMVTIS-approved providers of vehicle history reports.

I listed my car for sale on craigslist. Was contacted by scammer's so-called daughter asking for my real email address to communicate.

Scammer said he was interested in my car but wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam. Some family members had been burned. I directed him to my CarGurus Listing for more vehicle info after answering mechanical questions about the car's condition.

The scammer asked me to run a "vehicle title report" on globaltitlereport.com.

Said he was very interested but needed a title report for his loan officer. I told him I would need the loan officer's info for the lien holder info on the Bill of Sale for DMV. his final email said, he would pay my listed price no questions asked if I ran the title report and it was approved by his loan officer.

I became suspicious when he insisted that I needed to run the title report...that it wouldn't do any good if he ran the title report. Plus I realized that the VIN number was on my CarGurus ad and anyone could run a title report or carfax report because the VIN was clearly published on the ad.

I put my car up for sale on Craig's list and got a message from someone who showed interest. After a couple of email exchanges he insisted that I pay 25 dollars and run a Vin number report on a site I have not seen or heard before. This site is called fulltitlereport.com. I could not find and reference about this site anywhere on the internet.

Received two similar pings to my Craig's List ad selling my car. Looked fishy but was also specific enough to my ad that I engaged. Luckily I saw on this website that others were having similar issues, so did not click on any links or share any information. Since I pointed out the scam, the scammer has not tried to contact me again. Here are the emails they sent me:

provide a current Title Report?

My loan officer has requested a report from www.worldtitlefax.com/.

I would really feel more comfortable buying a vehicle with an official

Title report.
