I received a text message from a completely fraudulent contact pretending to be Venmo, saying that there was unusual transaction activity on my account and my account has now been “locked”. It stated that in order to unlock my account, I must click their link to “secure and verify” my information. Because I have worked in a ************ ******** ***** ****, I was fully aware that this was a complete scam and did not click anything and immediately reported it to Venmo’s support team.

A person from the Venmo company called to report that somebody was hacked and money was sent to my account as a third party routing. They asked that I report a verification code to an online messaging system. They wanted me to transfer the money to my account, then pay the victim back through paypal, or zelle. I refused but at the time I ended the call due to suspicions, my account email address and password were already changed.

Someone called my phone saying that someone hacked my venmo account. They asked if i received an email, at that moment i checked and did in fact have an email from “venmo”. They said they can secure my account by texting a code to my phone and asked for me to repeat the code. I never gave them my phone number, at that moment it felt suspicious so i hung up. A few minutes later i decided to check my bank account and noticed that there were over 12 transactions sending money through venmo to someone which i did not do.
