The email stated "Ethel D. Tatham requests $97.90" through Venmo. I do not know this person and have not initiated any kind of transaction with a person by this name. When I called the phone number in the email, it sounded like a residence and not a place of business. The man who answered had a very heavy Indian accent.

A few months ago, I was contacted via text message by what appeared to be Venmo. I followed the link and inputted some of my personal Venmo account information. A few days later, a Venmo credit card was ordered through Synchrony Bank using a ficticious name, a different address (the one I provided in the report) than my personal address, a different birthdate, and somehow a different social security number. I don’t know exactly how this was done, but I have tried talking with Venmo and Synchrony Bank each over 5 times now and they have been unable to help me with this. Venmo says that they cannot close the account since the credit card was ordered through Synchrony Bank and Synchrony Bank says that they cannot close the account because I do not have the social security number and birthdate that was used to order the credit card. I do not feel safe using my Venmo account while the credit card is still active, and I am hoping that you can help get this credit card closed.

I have included a screenshot of the message I was sent with the number that I was contacted from.

Thank you for your time and help.

Contacted me through Facebook messenger, Marketplace, saying they wanted to buy my $500 ring.

They sent me several emails pretending they were Venmo, they said they would only be able to pay me that large amount if I created a business account with Venmo (which of course Venmo DOES have business accounts), so I opened one with the real Venmo. We were back and forth with the scammers texting on “messenger” at least 2 hours, which became very suspicious! They were pushy and refused to meet me in town to pay in person. Three different emails from them, when they were pretending to be Venmo, were very demanding and in BOLD print. They used the Venmo “V” at the beginning of their emails, so I didn’t immediately recognize they weren’t Venmo! Creeps!!??

I received a phone call from this number saying they were a representative from Venmo and that they had noticed unusual activity on my account. The person on the line referred to me by my first and last name, which is why I didn't hang up right away. They said I should have received an email notifying me of the suspicious activity and that they were calling to resolve the issue. I was about to go into a meeting so I said I would have to deal with it later, and the caller tried to get me to commit to a time I would be free for him to call back. I asked if there was contact information in the email and he hung up.

Pretty obviously a scam, but since the caller did know my name I wanted to spread the word! Note: I live in a different zip code than my phone number would suggest, so if I was targeted based on location that might have an impact.

+1 (830) 522-1834 I got a text from the scammers a few minutes ago. Sounded fishy.....and it is! Please do not click on the link. They send me a link : h t t p : / / tryin.xyz / jgVmKlfhKZ

I did not click on it.

How did they get my number?!

This phone number called me saying that they were with Venmo, and were calling to dispute a charge they got for $100 out of my account. They said this looked out of pocket as the state I am from is not the one where the charge came from. They then said they would be sending a text code to my phone and I simply needed to repeat the number back to them. Then the conversation got even more weird as I did not receive the texts, and the man said he would use my email to contact me with a code. I received no email from them, but instead got a text with a link to change my password. The man then instructed me to change my password to "Venmo####" with the # being the last four digits of my phone number. Thinking this was suspicious I hung up, but I wanted to warn as this can happen to anyone!

They called to say that someone was trying to get into my account and move money around to foreign accounts. They sent me a code to read to them similar to this situation: https://www.wafb.com/2020/06/12/scam-alert-use-caution-when-answering-calls-alle...
