I randomly received a $48 payment from someone named Crystal Garrulo on Venmo. Shortly after, this person sent me a message saying that she accidentally sent the money and is asking that I send her the money back. Something didn’t sound right. I googled this and it is a Venmo scam. Luckily, I did not send the money to her or else I would be out the $48. I’m currently sitting on hold to speak with Venmo now.

The scam apparently works like this: someone accidentally sends you money, and asks you to send it back. They had used a fake credit card to send it. Once you send the money back to them, they delete the credit card because it’s fake, and they take your money out and add it to their own card. You lose the original “accidental” money that was paid to you, and you’re also out the money you sent. BEWARE!
