My husband is selling our vehicle on OfferUp and Craigslist. He had one potential buyer constantly asking questions then wanted the history of the vehicle. He sent link above. My husband first Google the link, www.carscheck.com, to see if it’s a credible website. It showed good reviews. He decided to click on the link and entered the vin#. The website required a credit card to purchase the history. I told my husband to stop and do not continue. I’m worried that by us clicking on the link was enough for scammers to collect anything even if we only put just the Vin#. I want to report this!

When attempting to sell a trailer on craigslist, a scammer reached out to me through text message, asking me to provide paperwork on a specific website alternative to Carfax to get the Vin number and specs on the vehicle. They pretended that they were interested in buying the RV I was selling, but we’re only interested in receiving the $25 fee from the unknown website alternative to Carfax

I am selling an RV, and the potential buyer seemed interested. He then asked for a car report from a website he provided. I didn't click on the link, but I found the website through a Google search. The site seemed legit, but after a few days, I started to realize it was a scam in that the potential buyer never wanted to talk on the phone and constantly had grammatical errors in texts. The website never appeared on any vehicle reports like Carfax. I'm canceling my credit card just in case.
