First, I was contacted by "Kate" who told me she had seen my resume and thought I would qualify for a job with Vateco Tech and wanted me to continue to pursue the interview process. She scheduled a short phone interview for me with an HR assistant later that week, which I took, and then afterwards reached out again and said since I qualified to move into the next step, she would now be passing me on to "Jonathan Buford." He described their training process to me and said that candidates were to complete a 1-month probationary period in which they would complete training remotely that would take a couple of hours each day and at the end of the month of training they would be paid $2,000. If we successfully completed the month of training, we would then be part of more in-depth interviews, and if those went well, be offered a full time position as a project manager with the company. I was unaware far enough to get to the point where he sent me the first day of training materials before I realized something was off. I'm not certain what these scammers were trying to get, especially since they seemed to be willing to wait an entire month and create fake training materials, but I am assuming they were after my bank account information that they would have needed to pay me at the end of the training period.
