I received a phone call from a lady who said her name was Sarah Watson. She said she was with a company and they were going out of business and noticed I made some transactions for computer service on May 19, 2020 and June 4, 2020. Because they were "going out of business", they needed to refund the money I spent which was $800 and $200 for a total of $1000. She went on my computer had me log into things like zoho.in and also had me login to my online banking account. I then gave her the last four digits of my checking account number where she was going to refund me the $1000 only to put in $2000. To correct the error, she had me go to Best Buy and purchase two $500 Google Play gift cards. I went to one Best Buy and bought two $100 gift cards because that is the maximum this store gives for gift cards. Ms. Watson then had me go to another Best Buy in the area to purchase more Google Play gift cards totaling $800 to bring the total to the $1000 I was supposed to give back. The cashier then alerted me that many businesses have been using this gift card as way to scam people out of money. When I told them I wanted to buy four gift cards at $200 each, they told the store manager. He told me not to purchase them and fortunate for me I had the scammer on the phone. When I handed my phone to him to speak with "Sarah"- she quickly hung up in embarrassment. I have already let my bank know about this so I'm confident no more damage will be done. Next time I'll know to be extra careful and ask plenty of questions. Also, the extension on the above mentioned phone number is 1373.
