On January 21, my wife contacted Colonial Moving and spoke to Brooke. Brooke took all the information down regarding the move details provided from my wife. Brooke explained that all calls are being recorded. Brooke assured my wife that all information was taken down and that the cost would be around $3200.00. After collecting the information, we had a discount for $1000.00 for a "book it now discount". That would bring the total to $2227.40. A bit of time passed as my wife acquired other bids. Brooke followed up with my wife and we felt that since the first conversation went so well, their price was the lowest, and most importantly, the company wasn’t a broker; so we were told, so we signed up with the company we "thought" was Colonial. Brooke asked to secure the date with a down payment of $1250.00. The down payment was processed via credit card and they were assured that Brooke would walk them through the rest of the move and she would be their one and only contact, that was founded to be a lie. Two months later, we were rcvd a call from John Harris from Colonial moving (according to his introduction) he called to follow up and verify the items we were packing and taking with us. While we were reviewing all the items, he also told us the call is being recorded. John Harris told us that the movers would disassemble the items, pack the remaining items and move everything we requested. We were also told that we weren’t to do anything but, “point to what needs to be done and the movers would take care of everything else.” Now it was at this point that the estimation changed. He determined that the cost of the move was going to increase because a larger truck was required, he assumed more boxes, and other miscellaneous items that were not originally accounted for in the first bid. He asked for us to sign the bid for contract before he could process anything else since there was not a bid signed for originally. Since we were in route, (we were to be out no later thanTuesday), once internet was connected on our journey, we were unable to see the original document because the digital contract server was not populating and a copy was not provided to us. A company under the name of S&M relo LLC movers came to the house and we were taken back immediately as it was NOT United nor Colonial. We didn’t know what to do. This was not Colonial or United, which was another name they referred to themselves. We didn’t know who S&M relo was but they had our information and it was the EVE of the close on the house. Debbie Emmers, representative of S&M Relo LLC, told us that they were hired by United (not even Colonial) to pack the truck and move our items. Debbie immediately indicated that there will be an upcharge on anything they have to pack and or take apart. This was NOT what we were told by John and we explained to her what we were told. At this time, Debbie contacted her boss; Steve Coburn at S&M. As they were walking through the house estimating what their charges would be, this is when the bid change…again. We explained to Debbie what our representative stated we were signing up for but she told us that they were hired by United (Colonial) and this was what they were doing and we had the option of taking their services or not. We were backed up against the wall. After some time of deliberation, we determined that we did not have any other choice. We had to be out by that night, we couldn’t hire another moving company and due to the covid-19 epidemic, no one else (family/friends were restricted due to social distancing and were quarantined) there was no other choice because no one was able to come in and do it. U-haul didn’t even have the size truck we needed so we had no other choice but to accept that United (colonial) hired them. We told Debbie that we would accept their services and she contacted her boss; Steve Coburn, who then asked to speak to me and we walked the house and created yet ANOTHER bid, albeit a bit higher. Steve and my wife and I made arrangements to accept $2000.00 in cash that day and the transaction was made. We asked for a copy of the receipt but Debbie assured us that all the papers would be forwarded to us, they were not. The packing went as well as it could and they left with a truck (after feeling it was necessary to get another truck- mind you were not asked to look in the truck to ensure that another truck was necessary.) They did not take apart the outside swing, which was told by John that they would and they put in it the truck in one piece. Also, we were informed that the front end of the truck belonged to another client. So, that was fraudulent that we were charged for another truck. So the truck pulled away. After extensive conversations with Steve regarding monies paid, to be paid and when was our stuff to arrive, he pushed us aside and changed decisions midway, such as we were not eligible for 30 days of storage, we had to make payment the way they specified and would not supply a bill of lading. It was a fiasco to say the least. Steve Coburn did not reply any further. We contacted the initial company to find out what else we can do and was put through to Amanda, who apparently was the operations manager of United and or Colonial. She assured us that our things were going to be delivered after we had told her the before mentioned conversation. She said that she was going to put another employee in charge of this and would get back with us by the end of the day…never heard back. Called a number provided by Amanda the next day to follow up. The person said things that were turned in to Amanda and that we should hear from her by the end of the day. Never heard from anyone. Since it was the weekend, we waited until Monday afternoon to try and contact them again. Once again, no answer and left several messages. We finally receive a call back and they were telling us that the reason our things were not scheduled is because we still owed them money. We asked them how much was owed when we have already paid almost $9,000.00? We then asked to speak with Amanda and she said Amanda was on another call and wasn’t available. We told her, Amanda was supposed to be handling our account and that she was supposed to have called us back the following week. The representative placed the call on hold and came back to say Amanda would call back as soon as she was available. We did get a call back from a number assumed was Amanda but was not able to get to the phone in time to answer. No message was left and we called the number back to get, no answer, left another message to call back. No one called back. We called again the next day and was not able to reach anyone and left messages again. Still, no one called back. We called again the following day and left messages. No call back. Called back again on same day to finally reach someone and we got the same things again. They said we still owed them a balance, told them the same thing, did not understand why after we had already paid approx. $9,000.00. Finally, was finally able to talk to Amanda and it was not going well. She kept telling saying we had an unpaid balance that was due before they would process and schedule the delivery. Keep in mind, we had been trying to get our things scheduled for delivery for at least two weeks. She kept saying that I wasn’t listening to her. heard every word she said. She was not answering questions thus elevating the level of impatience. She then told us to call back when we calmed down and hung up! We called back a few minutes later and was able to get hold of another representative, Brianne and she listened and said she understood my frustration. It took someone like Brianne to help with getting my things scheduled for delivery. This company went from being Colonial to United to S & M relo to Affordable Moving… if you see any of these names anywhere, DO NOT hire them…We are still trying to find out other alias’s they used. Who knew one company would actually be 4!
