United for Happy Living Reports & Reviews (1)

- Kansas City, MO, USA

On March 3, 2017, at 3:13 p.m., I received a telephone call on my landline home phone from 816-406-0945 (a local number for me in Kansas City, MO). I answered only because it was local and I thought it might have to do with my husband's medical issues. The heavily accented woman (Spanish), immediately assure me this was not a sales call. She then went on to say she was with a nonprofit organization called United for Happy Living. She had my address and asked if she could send information or a card about their organization. I replied, "yes." I immediately regretted it because it was obvious my response was recorded. A red flag went up because I then remembered reading about scams involving such a recorded "yes." I asked her a couple of questions, and she made a comment that she was in Dallas. Another red flag, given the CID showed a local (Kansas City) number. I then told her not to send me anything, as I did not want to receive anything from that organization. As soon as I hung up, I checked that number online and found several complaints from people that this was a "spoofed" number. So I believe it is a scam, but so far I don't know what they plan to do with my recorded "yes." I called my telephone company and had a block put on international calls and a freeze on third-party charges. I called my credit monitoring company (BOA Privacy Assist) and they are sending me some kind of victim packet with info on what to do. I have cancelled several credit cards that I do not use and do not have time to monitor. I called one of my remaining credit card companies and they said they would put a fraud alert on my account. I will also use Equifax to put a fraud alert on my credit. I did not give these people any information--no account numbers, no SSN, no anything. She already had my address and, of course, my telephone number, but no other information I am aware of. So I'm not sure what they were planning to do. The info I have found so far with respect to these "yes" recordings have to do with charges placed on phones and utilities, but I'm not sure how. I still have the number on my CID. In fact, I have received at least three more calls from this same number in the five days since the initial call that I answered, but I have not answered it and they left no message. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.
