I attempted to call United Airlines to make reservations. Scammer did make reservations saying he worked as United airlines agent , but made several unknown charges. I contacted United airlines and was told he didn’t work for united and said he made the reservations on line. Flights were canceled and my bank contacted.

I missed my flight to chicago with United airlines.

I called their customer support listed on my ticket.

Had such a rough time with their connection by not being able to understand them due to accent etc and their connection seemed like it was going in and out while i had full cell phone bars.

I hung up and before i could call again i got a call saying it was united calling back.

They had my info about my ticket and all.

I had to reschedule my flight and they said there was fee.

I told them to use the card they have on file.

They said there wasn't one?

How is that when that's how i paid for the ticket in the first place? First red flag.. Whatever lets just get it done!

Didn't argue i was just happy they can get me on another plane so gave them a different credit card # over the phone.

Everything seemed to be right.

My new ticket was valid and i got on the plane.

The second red flag.

At baggage they said i needed to pay $40 for my bag?

On the phone they said i had my bag with the amount being charged. i had already paid for it with the original ticket? I double checked via while on the phone with them.

I seen my credit card bill and had a $40 charge for united and another charge for Airfares Reservations805-4724753NJ show up for $92.67

I assumed that was just the cost to get me to Chicago so i didn't dispute and just told myself i would not fly with United if i can help it in the future.

Fast forward 2 months to my december CC statement and i have another charge from Reservations805-4724753NJ again but this time it is for $464.00.

And not to mention i have 2 new Doordash charges on this specific card in which i do not use Doordash.

So it looks like somehow these scammers have some connection to United's customer service where they get your info and inquiry to change flights and call you back from a different # to finish the rescheduling and then require a credit card while you are under distress of missing your first flight.

This has me so frustrated due to the fact, how are they connected?

I called Capitol One today and disputed the $92.67 and the $464 charge from Reservations805-4724753NJ.

I hope the findings come back that this was indeed fraudulent.

My card was not present for the two charges.

Please keep an eye out for these types of scams.

Google searched to find phone number for United Airlines customer service. Called that number (888-217-7049), since I wanted to delay my existing departure flight by one day. Agent answered phone saying "Reservations", said his name was Neil, then took my confirmation number and recited back my existing flight information. I told him I wanted to depart one day later (Sunday instead of Saturday), but use the same Thursday return flight. I told him what Sunday flight I wanted. After booking that flight for me, he requested my credit card number, and put through a $399.99 charge that was billed to my credit card. I requested an electronic confirmation of the change, but was not too suspicious otherwise.

What Neil emailed was information on a Monday United Airlines flight. I got suspicious and called a known travel agent who contacted United Airlines, and worked 30mins. to straighten out the mess. After they had booked the flights I wanted, for a change fee of only $85, they explained that Neil did not represent United Airlines. His booking of the Monday flight (neither the day nor the flight that I had requested and been promised) did show up in the United Airlines system, but my Thursday return flight had been cancelled. They said I would have to personally contact Neil again to request a refund of the $399.99 charge.

I called Neil's bogus 888-217-7049 number. The person who answered said he didn't know any Neil, but after I reported the mess that Neil had made, passed me off to a manager. I told the manager what had happened, asked him to refund the $399.99 charge, and said I was going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. He said that my initial 888-217-7049 phone call was probably routed to a group other than his own. He claimed innocence, told me to report them to whomever I wanted, and then immediately hung up the phone.

I got the correct United Airlines phone number from their website, and called them so their fraud department could investigate the bogus number that was supposedly representing them. The United Airlines agent put me on hold while he called the 888-217-7049 phone number himself. After again connecting with me, he said the lady who answered his call eventually said she worked for a third party travel agency with a name containing the words "sky" and "high". This United Airlines agent also said he would also report the 888-217-7049 phone number to the airline's fraud department.

I contacted the credit card people and disputed the $399.99 charge. I will see what transpires in the next 90 days, while that dispute works its way through the process.

Google search led me to fake United customer service website which, in my rush to cancel tickets, I did not notice. The rep charged $245 to cancel the tickets. I later learned United would cancel these same tickets for free.

I needed to change my name on my United Plane ticket for an international trip within 24 hours of departure date. I went on the United app and clicked on the number for customer service. It routed me to an agent who took my information, name, email and the agent said he made the change, sent me an email confirmation and i authorized a $350 charge. Then, i went to the airport the next day and United said nothing was changed and they have no record of a $350 charge. When i showed the email receipt to the ticket agent he said that wasn't from United. I told him i called the number from the United app. He had no response.
