Wary about giving away my address to someone I hadn't vetted, I looked up the business address she'd provided. It was an empty storage building in New Mexico with no identifying information, listed as a single-family home on Zillow. My partner asked me to send her the original message, and she found scam reviews including the exact string of text "Kate" had originally sent me, word for word.
Apparently, this scam has been going on for years. They've went by Zee Auto Parts and Velpick in the past. They send a fake check, insist they sent more than they were supposed to send, then demand that you send them the difference before releasing the funds. If you value your time and money, stay far, far away from "Kate J" and "Uncle Auto Parts."
