I engaged with Best Buy through their chat for a price match opportunity with someone named 'Derek.' I automatically downloaded the chat history thru the Best Buy feature. After Derek made an error and withdrew his price match offer, I decided not to buy the product. Derek seemed to become a little insistent that I buy the item by clicking links in my email and text messages. I declined thinking nothing of it. Two days later, I received an email from an unrecognized gmail ([email protected]) with a pdf document that appears to say that I signed up for a Geek Squad subscription. The email included Derek's name and possibly Tiffany who I may have spoken to in past Best Buy chats but I have no way of confirming. No Geek Squad or Best Buy charges have yet been made to any of my accounts as of today, but I suspect that somehow my contact information was compromised during this chat or perhaps Derek became vindictive and signed me up for a Geek Squad subscription. I did not click the PDF document and reported it as phishing to Google. But, I have a feeling that whoever this representative was has a malicious intent towards Best Buy customers and that Best Buy is not being responsible in their oversight or hiring practices.
