I thought clicking through an ad on Instagram would be safe... They were offering free watches, just pay for shipping. I googled the company and there were enough legitimate seeming reviews that I thought it was safe. Two months and a lot of emails later, there are no watches and no refund. I realized after the purchase that the email is a @gmail.com address so right then was a little regret but waited it out. So there were some red flags, but I thought going through a serious social network would be fine. Now I totally disregard all ads on IG and FB as scams.
