Unfortunate Situation

I was contacted by Trademark Women of Distinction organization, and I received everything that I was supposed to receive. This organization is a membership base entity that has made an effort to recognize women that have made great strides in their line of work. After my interview I was told that I would be included in the honors edition and would be considered a lifetime member of their organization. You do not pay for your plaque, you pay for your membership. This to me was no different than any other organization that I am connected to where I pay a yearly membership fee to be a part of the organization. Actually, the membership at Trademark Women of Distinction is less than several of the organization that I am part of that require a yearly membership fee. What I see is that this organization was only trying to establish a professional network with various services that professional women could take advantage of. What a travesty that this organization has been given a bad name because someone did not make it through the vetting process, therefore did not get the recognition intended.

Thank you for this, Cathy. I spoke with Mrs. Julie this morning. I was a Who's who member all the way back in high school which is the only reason I responded to their fax to begin with. I agree with you that it's a shame they've been dragged through the mud bc people will miss out on the opportunity to better their lives. My spouse always says, it isn't what you know, it is who you know. And it sounds like a recognition such as this can open the door to new ventures.

Julie Gregory, Executive Director with Trademark Women of Distinction faxed and called my business phone and personal cell phone several times over the course of several weeks to inquire about an application they received. When I spoke with her, she said I had been nominated by a person in my office for the Women of Distinction publication and I was selected to be the ONLY representative for the entire state of Nebraska. She said this was a prestigious award and is only given to women with significant achievements, etc., etc. She stated there would be no cost for this award and they would send me a rough draft of my nomination so I could make edits before it is published. She asked several questions about my job history, was very complimentary and friendly. She said I would be listed in the Women of Distinction book and this book would be a black, leather bound book and my information would forever be in the book and I can make updates and edits each year as needed since my entry would never be removed. This award would also include a plaque commemorating this honor along with a press release. She said this would be a significant marketing piece for my business. She then went on to state I would have just this one time to make a purchase of this book for $399.50 and if I wanted the plaque, the plaque would be an additional $299.50 and the press release would be free. I stated I was not interested in purchasing either at this time and could she give me the Trademark Women of Distinction's website so I could get more information and she immediately changed her tone, became very defensive and wanted to know why I would want their website when she can answer any question I have. When I persisted in wanting her to give me the website, she became outright rude and said, 'let me put you on hold one minute' and then proceeded to hang up on me and has not called back since. This is a TOTAL SCAM!!! Do not waste your money. They will get your name and information from trolling websites. Additional complaints have been filed on the BBB. Buyer Beware.
