We told her we were going to see the statue on the ferry; she told us we wouldn’t really see it from the SI ferry and showed us how close we could get in a ‘three tier luxury yacht cruise’.
We each parted with $35 to be told we’d get a free shuttle bus and were given a ticket that once in your hand you can read says ‘non refundable’, with not obligation to provide a shuttle’.
After waiting in a line for nearly two hours and the line being moved on by police, we started questioning what was going on.
I was verbally abused, sworn at, and repeatedly called a liar when I said how long we’d been waiting.
We talked to the ticket sellers, the transfer staff and the police and no one cared that we’d clearly been scammed.
After four and a half hours of getting no where, a miracle shuttle bus arrived and bussed us to New Jersey. The three tier luxury yacht was a one tier fishing boat, the bar and restaurants was a corner with a whiteboard displaying prices, and the one hour cruise we were promised was a 15 minute round trip to the front of the statue and back.
Do NOT purchase tickets from an individual no matter how official they look!!
