victim opened email and was immediately notified of their computer being infected. they were instructed to call a number for assistance in removing the malware from the computer. upon calling the number, the victim was then instructed to provide their credit card information along with their billing information/ home address to pay for the service of removing the malware. after feeling uneasy about the transaction, the victim called the number back to cancel the payment and was told they would receive a call back confirming the canceled payment. the victim did not receive a call back and within the same day of the phone transaction called her credit card company to cancel the payment/cancel the entire card.
