I received a notification that this person wanted to purchase an item I had for sale on ebay. He wanted an invoice sent, which is outside of how ebay items are purchased. I called ebay customer service and explained the situation. I was told 'lots of customers request that, it's okay to send it'. I was suspicious but did it anyway through my paypal account. The scammer emailed me showing they had sent the payment with a paypal screenshot. I checked my paypal account and saw it was sent but not recorded as a payment. I let the scammer know I would ship upon payment confirmation. The scammer said he'd been ripped off by buying something and not receiving shipment and if I could assure him he was in 'safe hands'. I told him his payment was still not confirmed and he should either contact paypal or cancel the transaction and go through the ebay payment site which would protect him by not releasing funds to the seller under delivery of the item is confirmed. Never heard back from him. Sent complaint to ebay and they discovered this criminal had actually hacked into one of their users accounts and pretended to be him. I then cancelled the invoice that I had been asked to send and hope that is the end of it.
