I rented a dog friendly vacation house thru Expedia. I paid for *non-refundable* reservation full amount of almost $400. Two days later I was contacted via email by Vacasa, the property managing company. They requested that I sign another rental agreement with totally different rules and regulations including “pets not allowed, fine is $1,000”. They stated that check-in information will not be provided unless I sign new rental agreement. This is SCAM because it is just illegal to take non-refundable payment and then ask to sign a document which I would never sign if I saw it beforehand. I refused to sign and cancelled, Vacasa refused to return my money. If I would sign that paper and bring my dog with me, I would owe them another $1,000. I’m a licensed Real Estate Agent and I know for a fact, what they do is illegal. One cannot take money; say they are non-refundable and then ask to sign a separate rental agreement. All agreements and conditions must be presented and signed before payment is made.
