I replied to a posting on Hireowl.com for a work at home graphic designer position, it seemed perfect though I was a bit skeptical from the beginning. The job offering seemed legitimate, I researched the company, and the hiring manager (Susana Rojo) whether I was talking to the real Susana or not, I am unsure. I was to speak to the hiring manager via google hangouts and was interviewed and hired pretty much on the spot (after “thoughtful consideration” form the hiring team) after that, I was instructed on company policy and the 1-week training where I would need to get work materials in order to proceed. I was then informed that they wanted me to start right away and was sent a check of $*** to print out and deposit. Of cores, this was declined by my bank…I thought it was a fluke due to the printing of the check so while continuing to be skeptical, I continued conversing with Susana about methods to purchase the needed materials…. Eventually I ended up getting a credit card and was instructed to purchase *** worth of itunes cards for the vendor that was to supply the working materials. I felt this was odd and brought up my concerns, but they were continually pushed under the rug and denied. I even had a call with a supervisor that I couldn’t understand (Terry Williams I believe…but that might have been a lie as well) and no matter how much I insisted I talk with Susana (The woman I had supposedly been messaging the entire time) My requests were denied as she stated she was “very busy” I ended it there and they didn’t get a penny from me, but I am still afraid of Identity theft due to the fact that I gave them my social and address. But I did not end up giving them any money and quickly cancelled the credit card. It all just seemed so suspicious, and I have learned a very valuable lesson after going through it. DON’T FALL FOR IT!

I responded to a job post on Upwork.com. I was contacted by the job poster and directed to an online interview on Google Hangouts. I was "hired" and they sent a check for $3500 to cover a new laptop and home office equipment. My bank told me the check was fraudulent. Luckily I didn't use my own money to purchase supplies from their vendor.

They earned my trust by making smaller payments to me up front. They paid off my credit card and paid my cell phone bill. Eventually, They wanted me to send iTunes gift cards to the vendor.
