Suspected Pig-Butchering Scam – Wrong Number Approach
Date of first contact: 08/08/2025
Method of contact: SMS text message
Phone number used: 437-453-8660
Your location: CT, USA
Scammer’s claimed identity: “Tiffany from Los Angeles”
________________________________________
Summary of events:
On 08/08/2025, I received a text message from the above number claiming they had left an “LV bag” at my place. After some brief description and a photo, the sender changed their story, claiming they had the wrong number.
They quickly shifted to a friendly and personal conversation, asking about my location, sharing details about themselves (including a profession as a jewelry designer and age), and suggesting future in-person meetups. They also mentioned coincidental overlaps in our locations to build rapport.
This pattern matches the early grooming stage of a pig-butchering scam:
• Stage 1: Initial wrong-number hook and photo
• Stage 2: Fast personal connection and flattery
• Stage 3: Establishing trust for future contact (often leading to investment fraud pitches)
No direct financial request was made yet, but the tactics and flow align with known scammer scripts used to prime victims for investment or romance fraud.

Oh! It's me, Susanna. Don't you recognize me?
I've always been blonde. Aren't you Susanna?
Oh my goodness, this is so embarrassing. I checked and realized I saved the wrong number. I'm so sorry. I hope I didn't bother you or waste your precious time and energy.
I hope you can forgive me.
I didn't go to any parties the other day. Where are you from?
Nice to meet you, I'm Tiffany from Los Angeles
Hi! Good morning. Do you have any special plans for today?
Coincidentally, I have some clients in New York, and I just returned from there last month. I plan to visit them again in November. I hope we can have coffee together next time I'm in New York. I apologize for my mistake today.
That sounds like a great plan.
I hope that next time I arrive in New York, I can invite you, a kind gentleman, to take me to experience the local characteristics and beautiful scenery.
This weekend has been pretty good. Today, I plan to go play golf at the Los Angeles Country Club with Lucy. Where exactly will you be moving to in Los Angeles? Maybe we can grab a coffee together sometime, and I could even be your tour guide to show you some of the best local food.
Thank you for your compliment. Many of my friends have said similar things. I'm a jewelry designer with my own company, specializing in high-end custom made pieces. What kind of work do you do?
You’re truly a Jack of all trades it’s impressive how skilled and adaptable you are in so many different areas.
I'm 43 years old. If you don't mind, may I know how old you are?
When you arrive in Los Angeles this September, I’ll not only treat you to a delicious cup of coffee but also warmly invite you to explore the city with me and experience its unique cultural charm.
It seems you've been very busy today. I hope you don't forget to relax while working.
