I was contacted by Julie B. Warner of Thrive Artists Agency for possible commercial representation. I went to Thrive Artist's website and noticed it seemed bare, but didn't think too much of it. I googled the agency and a post from ripoffreport.com immediately came up from someone with an experience at another agency that said Thrive was it's "sister agency". This person reporting the possible scam on that website said they were encouraged to take a commercial class from a Mike Pointer and that the class wasn't very helpful. He said that he had made contact with an actress who was listed as a part of an agency on their website, but she never was with that agency. They were using the headshot that she took to Mike Pointer's class. I googled two of the people listed on Thrive Artists' roster and they had their own websites and information that did not list Thrive Artists as their representation, but both of these actors listed that they had taken class with Mike Pointer.

I am an actress. I was contacted by Julie B. Warner at Thrive Artists Agency for possible commercial representation. I am very diligent in doing my homework regarding possible employment and representation. I searched google for both names and found nothing. Neither she or the agency is listed on IMDB; which is a database that lists agents, agencies, actors, managers, producers, etc. The only info provided is the website www.thriveartistsagency.com. The 'about' section makes reference to a person and agency, but I could not find info on this person or agency on google or IMDB either. The biggest tip-off for me was the Actor section. For a company that was just opened this year, they already had about 50 clients being represented. I thought this was odd, especially since the agency is not listed anywhere. I started searching on IMDB for each actor listed on Thrive's website. I compared the photos, and checked each actors personal contact/representation section. Thrive is listed no where. The next biggest tip-off for me was the photos. Many of the photos on Thrive's website seemed to be old headshots. Looking at the IMDB pages, you could tell a handful of the actors are much older now. So, I started contacting the actors. Im still in the process of trying to contact some. I took a break to report this because two of the actors confirmed with me that they are not represented by this person/agency, have never heard of them, and their photo is being used without their consent. One actor even said the photo being used is a headshot he has not used for about 10 years. I immediately cancelled my "audition" with them. I also contacted the website used where this person found me, as well as the facility where the auditions are supposed to take place. I personally do not know if anyone has lost money from this, however this is not ok. Especially in the entertainment industry it is not ok to falsely represent someone or use their photos without permission for their own gain. I also left a voicemail at the number provided saying I will not be meeting because I think this is a scam.
