I tried to purchase a puppy from his website. He was very polite at first, and answered every question I had when it came to the dog. But when when answering technical information about the dog, his responses seemed a little bit more professional than the way he actually spoke. That should have been my first red flag regarding this breeder. But he did seem to know what he was talking about, and he did have videos as well as pictures of the puppies. We went ahead with signing a sales agreement with a moneyback guarantee. The total purchase price for the puppy along with shipping was $950. When I tried to make payment, my bank cards got shut down due to a fraudulent activity outside of the country. I didn’t think anything of it and thought of it as an unfortunate coincidence, so we tried doing the transfer via Zelle. When I made the transfer, he gave me a name that was different than his. He said he uses his associates names due to there being an $800 limit for what they can receive daily. That should have been my second red flag. I was only able to send $500 through Zelle because my bank had a limit of only 500 per day. So the next day, I tried to make the second payment, and I received a phone call from my bank stating that it was declined due to that particular name being flagged as fraudulent. I called the breeder, and I asked him to provide me with information regarding his business, or at least some verifiable happy customer reviews so I can feel comfortable with sending the remaining $450. He became very upset, stated his religion doesn’t allow him to steal money from people and feed his family on stolen funds. He swore to me that he would never put his business in jeopardy over $950. He assured me that we signed a binding agreement, that if I do not receive my puppy, I will be refunded the full balance. So despite the multiple red flags, I decided to take him for his word and give him the remaining $450. The next morning he sent me a verification from his pet shipment company, pet air carrier llc stating that the puppy is waiting shipment. The verification said the puppy will leave at 11:45 PM to arrive the next morning at 11:45 AM. They gave me a tracking number for live shipping updates as well. So the following morning I checked the website for shipping updates and it said the puppy was still awaiting shipment. So I called the carrier facility and asked for an update. They stated that everything is good andI should receive an email with updates within the hour. I did receive an email, however, it told me that the puppies shipment is on hold due to needing a specialized electronic carrier. They said there will be a fee of $70 for the rental, and a refundable $1450 cautionary fee. When I asked why they didn’t disclose this on their website, they ran me around in circles and refused to answer my question. I then asked her to at least put on the website, some sort of disclaimer that shipment fees are variable, and the buyer may be subject to more above and beyond the initial price. She told me not to tell her how to run the business and hung up on me. I tried contacting the seller, and it wasn’t until I threatened to pursue legal action before he contacted me back and claimed he was sleeping. It was 1145 my time, him being two hours ahead of me. So It was close to 2 PM on a weekday. I told the seller what was going on, the fees that they were trying to enforce on me, and that I don’t feel comfortable paying more money to a place that I don’t feel is legitimate. I told the seller that I believe he should have to pay at least the refundable fees since he did not disclose any of that information before the purchase of the pet. I said I would pay the $70 rental fee, but that was it. He told me that he has done hundreds of puppy sales over the years and no one has complained about the $1500 shipment fee aside from myself, which in my opinion is highly inaccurate, and he was just trying to gaslight and manipulate. He was very rude to the point where he made me cry, and then continued to be disrespectful. He refused to pay the refundable fee, and told me he didn’t have to do anything above and beyond what he has already done. He told me if I can’t afford to pay the fee to the company that doesn’t even have a voicemail set up, that he will just pick up the dog, but since I had already told him that he is an unethical business owner, he will not be refunding me my money, which Was signed on contract. I am not much into conspiracy theories, but considering how difficult this transaction has been, and the absolute insanity of the whole situation, I believe both the breeder and the carrier company are the same business scam working together to get gullible people such as I to not only pay for a dog that won’t be received, but also pay an exorbitant amount of money for a specialized kennel that will not be refunded in the end when going to the airport to pick up a dog that doesn’t exist.
