The Velvet Bungalow AKA Charles and James

Purchased a pillow back in the spring and I never received it. Emailed multiple times and never heard back from them. Commented on their Facebook asking about my order and have since been blocked. Looks like they’ve been doing this for a while… they’ve changed their name MULTIPLE times, used to be “Masks of Texas” back in 2020, changed it to “GoBasics” at some point, then went to “The Velvet Bungalow” and now it looks like they’ve changed it to “Charles and James.” Obviously just trying to escape the negative reviews! Only way I know is I had a friend search “The Velvet Bungalow” on Facebook (I can’t since I’m blocked) and “Charles and James” popped up with all the same products. The screenshot is from a post that they’re tagged in on Instagram from 2020. Found by searching “Charles and James” on Instagram… such a sorry individual scamming people like this! Buyer beware!

Velvet Bungalow Scam

The Velvet Bungalow had a Facebook page selling pillows and other home accessories and their Facebook page kept coming up on my feed. I ordered a pillow on July 10th and they charged my debit card and I have not heard from them since. I have sent emails and commented on their Facebook page. This week I discovered that they had been reported as a scam and I tried again to get a hold of them. They deleted my comments on their Facebook page and now their Facebook page and website doesn't exist. It's sad that people are so crooked.

Scam scam scam!!

I came across an ad for The Velvet Bungalow on Instagram or Facebook advertising cute custom pillows. I ordered a pillow on April 30th for my mom for Mother’s Day and it never came. I reached out to the shop three times via email and they didn’t reply. I received a “shipping notification” on May 17th but it never actually shipped. USPS is still “awaiting the item” (todays date is July 27th). I’ve disputed the charges through my bank. Others have said they have experienced the same thing. I posted on their Facebook page asking about my order since email and the chat feature had been unsuccessful. My comment was immediately deleted and I was blocked from their page. There is no way to write a review on their website or Facebook page (for obvious reasons), so there is absolutely no way to warn others of this “business.” So sad that people can scam others like this and sleep at night! Thankfully I was able to get my money back through my bank, but STAY AWAY from this place.

I purchased two pillows on a Facebook page, called The Velvet Bungalow.

The order was placed on July 13. The total cost is $36.89. I realize this is not a lot of money to some. It is to me. All of these orders have added up to this person and getting free money off of orders, they have never intended to fulfill.

These pillows were to be gifts for my daughter and her college roommate.

I did not see any reviews on their Facebook page good or bad.

A couple days after I ordered I started seeing some comments pop up on their Facebook page asking why they were not responding to messages, emails, and why people had not gotten their previously paid orders.

I sent an email to them on July 20 asking if they could confirm that they received my order and they were working on it. I realize it had only been one week but I was immediately discouraged by the negative comments I read on Facebook.

I saw comments that people had ordered back in the spring, and still had not gotten their orders or their money refunded.

I started taking screenshots of some comments people had posted on their Facebook page. As soon as people post negative comments or reviews, they immediately delete them. I do have some screenshots with other customers names and I have been in contact through Facebook and messenger with a couple of those other customers.

I posted a couple comments on their Facebook page asking them to please reply to my emails and questions. They have since blocked me and I am unable to communicate on Facebook. I have sent a couple more emails though with still no response.

I found their page on Instagram and the same thing happened there. A couple people commented on their negative experiences, and I commented and have been blocked.

These people need to be stopped
