I applied for a job called the spot cafe. I received a text through a site called higherme.com saying they would like to interview me. I got the interview for 5/11/2022 at noon which was a phone interview. the day of, I received a call from +1 909-758-6013 Devynn Stein. she interviewed me within minutes, didn't ask many questions but said that I will be coming in for a trial shift and that she would add me to the schedule. I ended up scheduling the "trail shift" on Tuesday, May 17th from 3 pm-5 pm. I went in for the shift and didn't have to sign any papers or even write down a clock in time. I just started working and after 2 hours, they paid me $30 cash. I saw quite a few violations already, the first one being that they never asked me if I had my food handlers certificate, the cook was on her phone while cooking and smoking weed out of a bong outside the spot cafe every so often. even the shift lead would hit her vape periodically during the shift inside the kitchen. all the shift leads and employees knew about the drugs, and this was all on my first day. I ended up getting the job the next day and would be in training as Devynn explained to me in a text message. I have another job so I notified them that I would be having to change my schedule permanently to accommodate both jobs, we worked around my schedule and I was on the app 7shifts which was a scheduling app I assume. it said my schedule and I followed it, going into training each day. After the fourth day, they simply took me off the app and would not answer my calls or texts. I saw the app said that I was no longer scheduled for any shifts at the company and Devynn wasn't answering her phone number, at this point, I had called about four times. I decided to wait it out until the day of my next shift at the spot cafe. the day of, I called the actual cafe instead and got an answer from a shift lead Nina who then told the owner Devynn to reply to me. I received a text from her saying they will not be continuing my employment at the spot cafe and that I can pick up my check or have it mailed to me and I simply asked what the reason was. I didn't get a response. she responded saying I can pick up my check anytime the next day. I was upset because I had adjusted my schedule for my other job resulting in significantly fewer hours for two weeks straight. I couldn't get an answer out of Devynn or her employees as to why they would do something like that to an employee. even after switching my schedule and trying to confirm with her my availability, she didn't respond to me. I will be attaching the text messages between us and a picture of the app telling me I'm no longer apart of the company, as well as the check. I was not taxed for any of the work I did as I received a personal check for $135
