Got a letter from a bank claiming that I am a distant relative of a someone deceased who is entitled to 85% (with 15% to the bank) of 19.56 million pounds held by the bank. The bank name and address are legitimate because I looked it up, but the email does not appear to come from the bank and the salutation line just uses my last name (no first name or Mr. Ms. or Mrs). so I believe this is a scam. And since the letter came by regular first class US mail not registered this (along with the fact that I have never heard of the deceased) and also the fact the letter says the Embassy of Japan UK couldn't trace any relatives of the deceased but some how the bank has (not explained how) has identified me as a distant relative.
