Type of a scam Debt Collections
I called the number back and got the information and the person I was talking to Jason said there was a lawsuit against me for fraud, and that they wanted 10000. So he said if I set up a plan of two separate $1000 payments totaling $2000 the case would be dropped. I didn’t provide my information and said I’d call back because I knew something wasn’t right.
I called back and asked for the company name, address and telephone number because a family member of mine who works for a law firm was going to look into it.
The man I spoke to wouldn’t provide me anything and stated “well you already have our phone number”. I also asked for a validation notice and they would t provide me that either. He seemed to be nervous and asked if I had representation now (because my family member who is a lawyer wanted some information) and I said yes and he said that they’ll send the information to me via email. Which doesn’t seem right either.
The debt I have is real but I don’t know who these people are trying to collect it because they certainly don’t seem like a legitimate collection agency. Also, my loan has already or is just about to pass the NY statute of limitation of 6 years.
