While browsing the Internet, an image popped up stating that the security of the computer had been compromised and to call this number immediately. When called, the person asked how I got the number and what happened, as I explained he stated that I had called just in time and that he could fix the problem but he needed to access my computer. After he accessed the system and found the problem, he stated we would have to pay $149.99 to protect the network from this happening again. When we questioned what the other options were, he stated that there were other people waiting to be helped and he didn't have time for us to decide. Thinking that this was the only option to keep the system safe, I paid the money. After completing the transaction, I called Apple to question what else needed to be done with other devices in my network and they told me it was a ransom ware scam. They assisted me in clearing my hard drive and redownloading everything again. They also suggested stopping the payment to the company.
