Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I have attempted to contact the actual Tecan Global Group which operates out of Switzerland, but there is no voicemail to leave a message.
This scammer sent me a check in my email and was demanding I deposit it. I would not deposit it. The check says it comes from City National Bank in Los Angeles. I contacted that bank and told them about this fake check.
I am attempting to submit a complaint to Upwork, but there system is not submitting my request.
I am now reporting this to the ScamPulse.com and will report to the police and IRS next.
The scammer is feeding on people who are looking for work, saying that they will pay 30 dollars an hour for proof reading and copy editing. They say they will send a new employee a check for startup equipment. They sent it to my email, then repeatedly demanded that I deposit it without having me fill out a tax form or even having shown me an employment contract. Looking it up online, the message is pretty standard for this hoax and reads like this;

You are to set up a screen name with gmail hangout and add up the company Hiring Manager's hangouts screen name and instant message her for an online interview/briefing exercise. If you don't have a Google-hangout on your computer, then log on to www.hangouts.google.com to download one for free then Set up an account with Google hangout. She is online waiting for you.
Your verification code is Sr - 071 this would serve as your identification number throughout the on-line hiring process. Your timely response matters a lot, this is an online work from home and working hours are flexible.

Some people have deposited these nonsense checks and been really screwed over by these scammers. This is pretty upsetting, that they are feeding off of people who are looking for small amounts of work.
