I saw an ad on craigslist offering the position of personal assistant to someone that worked in an art gallery. The application led me to a Google doc where I filled out information about myself; I don't remember what it asked for but I know I gave my name, number, and address. About a week later, I received this email: [My name], I'm more than happy to inform you that your position has been confirmed. I had to verify all the information you provided hope I'll have your %100 diligence. Your quick response to e-mails and effectiveness will be required as you will be receiving your first assignment very soon. I will get back to you as soon as I have payment for errands and your salary sent to you with set of Instructions on each task you are to perform. You are to dress properly like you are in an office environment whenever handling your assignment. Please note that this job requires you to check your email 2-3 times daily as your total commitment is however needed. A two weeks notice is required if you want to terminate this job so please acknowledge receiving my email and have a wonderful day. Thanks in anticipation of your prompt response, Best regards, Taylor Bastiste Masterworks Gallery. They also texted me similar information. When I replied to say I accepted, they wrote, "Sorry for the delayed response as I'm glad to inform you that your first assignment would be delivered today or Monday through UPS. The payment to be delivered includes your first week pay ($400) and the rest will be used for the purchase of some pre-designed artwork for the art gallery. I'll send you the list of the pre-designed artwork by Wednesday or Thursday week as it's still in evaluation process in order to note and ascertain the necessary pre-designed artwork needed. I'll be returning on the 30thth of June so we should be able to meet up for a proper interview two days later or whenever you are able to meet for interview after my arrival. Once payment is received, proceed to your bank and have it DEPOSITED (deposit can be done via ATM or Bank Mobile App as well). The funds will be made available within 24 - 48 hours by your bank and email back as soon as you complete the deposit so that you can be fed with more details. I also want you to send me a copy of the deposit receipt to my email for my record/confirmation. Please write back as soon as possible to confirm you received my email and understand the instructions. You can also text me directly (410) 648-4589. At this point, the name associated with the email address was Micheal Mint, but they were still signing off as Taylor Bastise. They also texted me asking to schedule time for an in-person interview. Because I was becoming very suspicious, I asked why their email name had changed, to which they replied, "The first assignment payment was delivered to your residence and I've been expecting to hear back from you. Please check and email me the deposit receipt for record and confirmation purpose. I'll be hoping to hear from you as soon as the check has been deposited. Best regards, Taylor Bastiste". I emailed one more time asking about the name change and received no response. They texted me "Hello", and I replied to say that I thought this was a scam and was disengaging. There was no more correspondence.
