The scammers reached out to victim claimed they won money through lottery. They claimed they exhausted all means of giving away money and that victim had been selected to help pay victim’s bills (for an amount of $71,000). Victim was informed that tax on that total amount would need to be covered by the victim. Victim made payments around $5,000 in the from of gift cards, supplying scammers the gift card numbers (scanning a copy of the gift cards and sending the scanned information over email). Victim and scammer communicated over phone, text, and email.
